In 1973, the park district purchased the George Yelenich property at 16th Street and Luther Ave. The property included a one-bedroom brick home with six acres of land.

In 1993, the park district expanded the building by adding a gymnasium, preschool room, dance room, kitchen, museum/board room, front lobby, and storage.
