SPRINGFIELD, IL – Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today announced nearly $20 million in grants for 58 park projects in Illinois. These projects are being funded statewide through the Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) program facilitated through IDNR. “Being able to enjoy the great outdoors – especially in a beautiful state like Illinois – is key to our quality of life. Through the grants we’re announcing today, residents throughout Illinois will have even more opportunities for recreation and tourism,” said Gov. Blagojevich. “New parks, playgrounds, and athletic fields will not only add to the quality of life in our communities, but can also spur more economic growth.” “The continued effort to broaden the scope of recreation in Illinois is essential, not only for tourism and economic growth to the state’s communities but also for the health of our children,” Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) Acting Director Sam Flood said. YORK CENTER PARK DISTRICT (A) (DuPage Co.) $602,500, to acquire a 6.5 acre parcel adjacent to Knolls Park on 16th Street and Meyers Road.
