Are you going to need service hours this school year for a club, class or church? Become a York Center Park District Teen Action Volunteer and have the opportunity to meet your service requirements in a fun and exciting atmosphere. York Center is able to offer a variety of volunteer opportunities to teens in grades 8-12. Help out with preschool programs, special events, and even all day camps. After completing one of these training sessions, you will be able to volunteer for any or all the programs that are offered.

Join the YCPD every Thursday night for some open gym basketball. Teens can play a variety of basketball games or just shoot some hoops. Teams will be created every week for games that the teens would like to play. If the minimum is not met by 6:15p.m. then the program will be canceled for that night. Are you tired of buying expensive cards at the store? Do you think you’re more creative then the card artist; then this program is for you! We will make seasonal, sentimental, and holiday cards by using a variety of paper, fabric, card stock and more. We will punch out, glue, stencil, and layer our creative card creations.
Got a special someone for this Valentine’s Day? Come to the York Center Park District and create your own Valentine’s Day gift. All supplies are provided; all you have to do is come and be creative!
Come join us as we strike into a good time! Grab all your friends and challenge them to a few games of bowling. Meet at the Park District and we will take you to the bowling alley. Looking for that special gift for that special someone? Treat them to total relaxation at the Spa Escape. They will enjoy the experience of this relaxing evening, which includes a mini facial, foot treatment, hand and lip facials and de-stressing techniques to relieve tension. Techniques they can learn to do at home. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a towel, headband and washcloth.
Join us at the Illinois Park and Recreation Association’s 17th Annual All Night Ski Trip to Chestnut Mountain in Galena. Everyone is guaranteed 6 hours of ski/snowboard time and free lessons are available to everyone. Snowboards with retaining straps are allowed. The Park District can only guarantee rentals to participants who register before January 6. There is supervisory staff on the slopes and in the lodge to insure a safe, fun time for all. Food and soft drinks will be available for purchase all night. Drinks and snacks will be provided on the bus only. Drop off is February 10 in the early evening and pick up is February 11 in the morning. Details will be sent out prior to the trip. Sign up with your friends early to guarantee a spot.
Learn the characteristics of successful babysitting while taking part in discussion and role-playing activities. This class will cover skills such as how to properly handle accidents and emergencies while providing basic first aid care, child development, diapering, feeding and playing with children. CPR is covered although students will not be “certified.” Student handbook and reference materials are included. Students will receive a certificate after completing the eight-hour course. Please bring a doll and snack.
Do you like to be pampered or give someone special a unique and homemade gift? In this program, we will learn how to make bath salt, body glitter and bubble bath. You won’t want to give these gifts away without making some for yourself.
Have you seen the hippest jewelry lately? The feather earrings or the big beaded necklaces are the newest trend. We will learn how to make colorful dangling earrings and beaded necklaces to match. Bring your creativity to this program!
Bring in any t-shirt you would like to transform into a scarf! You’re old t-shirt will be turned into a cute an classy scarf in this fun unique program. You get to decide if you want a solid color scarf or a crazy colored one. No experience necessary.
From dodgeball, basketball, soccer and more! We’ll play a different sport each week. Learn the basic skills of each sport and put it to the test as week we will challenge each other in a game.
Just in time for the holiday, we will learn how to make creative and colorful eggs. We will make paper napkin decoupage eggs, and an Easter egg wreath and egg animals. You will be so proud of your creative eggs; you’ll want to display them all year!
If you’re a fan of a local high school band, we’ve got a musical alternative for you! Come out and enjoy live music at its finest and support your friends and their bands! The “Luck of the Irish” is coming to the York Center Park District. In this class, we will create our own St. Patrick’s Day craft. We will make bracelets and earrings using charms. Make one for yourself and one to share to spread the Irish joy!

You’ll find dozens of ways to challenge your skills and compete against your friends. Purchase additional credits on your game card $5 for 20 credits or $10 for 40 credits. During the “Dave & Buster’s Team Building Challenge” teens compete against each other in a series of games to see who comes out on top. Are you up for the challenge? This trip includes supervision, transportation, and entrance into Team Building Challenge with a $10 (Rechargeable) Power Card. Additional tickets are for purchase.

Do you have a bunch of pictures lying around? Bring them to the Park District and create your very own creative scrapbook of all your most important memories. You bring the pictures and a photo album, we will take care of the rest of the supplies. Relax, scrapbooking is meant to be fun!
Give your child the skills to defend themselves against bullies, help any of their classmates who are getting bullied and focus on non-physical just as much as a physical means of defusing an altercation. We’ll also equip your child with tools to heighten their awareness against abductors and avoid predators. Character lessons such as building self-esteem and respect for others is also an added benefit.
We will decorate a ceramic flower pot, fill it with pebbles, and make flower pens to fill it with. We will also wrap a present and make a card to tell our Mom’s how much we love them!
Grab a friend and come to the Park District to play some bags with other teens. Game will be played up to 21 points with a round-robbin tournament style. Come ready to play, cause the winning team wins a prize! Please have teams of two.
