The park district picks up the children at participating schools (York Center, Stevenson, and Westmore) and transports them back to the park district. The After School Recreation program is a fun place to make friends, play games, create fun crafts, work as a team and more! Each week’s activities are planned around a theme. The list of themes can be found in the ASR packet, which can be picked up at the front desk. This program follows the District 45 schedule.

We offer additional care on days when school is closed for holidays and traditional school closing, such as teacher institute days. This program
follows similar guidelines as the After School Program, but is offered from 7:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m. on days when children do not have school (excluding weekends). We ask that you be prompt at the time of pick-ups, as the program ends at 6:00 p.m. Campers MUST provide their own lunch and we ask that parents use disposable lunch bags labeled with the child’s name. Once again we follow the District 45 calendar and we “fill-in” for most days they do not have school. NOTE: A minimum of 10 participants is required in order to offer this service.
Stop by Monday night and play the park district’s most popular
game. Teams will be formed each week to play different
Dodgeball games. Note: Parents MUST sign a waiver release
& Emergency Information form in order for their

Gather your friends and spend an afternoon at the YCPD as we
play a variety of team building games. We will learn how to work
together and participate in a variety of ice breakers, and group activities. We will be teaching each other good sportsmanship as we
run around in the gym. Come dressed in comfortable clothes.
Join the YCPD Thursday nights for some open gym basketball. We
will play a variety of pick-up games, knockout, and other basketball
games. Note: Parents MUST sign a waiver release &

It’s our 20th Anniversary! Students will learn to draw in these
workshops! The Young Rembrandts program has developed over
the last 20 years to teach the basic concepts of drawing technique.
There are new lessons each session in a variety of subjects; animals,
action, still-life, landscape and cartoons. The instructor presents
a step-by-step method that has improved thousands of students
confidence and talent. Learning to draw can be lots of fun, especially
when we create silly characters with funny expressions! This
delightful program combines Young Rembrandts’ innovative stepby-
step drawing method with light-hearted subjects that engage
kids’ sense of humor and vivid imaginations.

Come sing and dance with all your friends to the newest beats of
your favorite stars. Enjoy eating pizza while listening to your

This fun filled class teaches little superstars the importance of
teamwork and sportsmanship, while attempting to spark an interest
in kids to play a variety of sports. Sports covered will be favorites
like; basketball, hockey, soccer, baseball, football, and many more.

This program is designed to teach children the basics of soccer in a
fun and exciting way. Dribbling, passing, and shooting will be covered
through fun games that keep everyone moving. This class is
great for coordination and self-esteem. The main objective is to
have fun! Equipment: Soccer Ball size 3-5.
What is the next underwater adventure for SpongeBob and
Patrick? You decide! Using your own imagination, creativity,
special digital movie making cameras, software and SpongBob™
Lego sets, you will create your very own SpongeBob™ movie!
You will become part of a team of writers, photographers, directors
and producers and create your own story and script, build various
SpongeBob™ Lego® scenes and film your own movie. You will
use graphic editing techniques and stop motion animation, add
background noise and music, and show your movie at a private
screening on the last day of class. All students will get a copy of
their movie after class is complete.
Parents need a night out? Drop your children off at the park district
one Friday a month to watch a movie and eat pizza. All of the
movies are G or PG rated. Parents must sign a waiver registration
form.

Children are guaranteed to have a great time as they learn a wide
variety of fascinating tricks that involve cards, ropes, coins, mind
reading, and more. While the tricks may appear difficult, you’ll
discover that they are quick to learn and easy to perform. All materials
are provided, and each child receives a magic kit to take
home. Children are grouped by age and always learn tricks that are
age-appropriate. Additionally, you can sign up for this class again
and again since brand new tricks are always taught at each session.
If you’re looking to improve your bowling skills or just want to
enjoy afternoons bowling with your friends! We will have a striking
good time bowling two games and meeting new friends. Fee
includes two games of bowling, shoes, a ride to and from bowling

Bring your creativity to this fun class. A variety of cool and crazy
crafts will be made. All supplies will be provided by the Park District.
If you love beads, buttons, paint and other craft supplies you
will enjoy this program.
Bring your Barbies, doll house, Barbie cars and more to the Park
District for an afternoon of fun and games. We will watch a Barbie
movie, create some clothes for Barbie, have a fashion show and
have time to play with our Barbies in the neighborhood. We will
create a neighborhood and have free time to play. A different snack
will be served each week.
Get out of the house this winter and come play some floor hockey
with us at the York Center Park District gym. This program is
designed for fun with an emphasis on safety. Teams will be made
each week.
In this six week class, participants will enjoy exciting experiments
right before their eyes each week. See how a liquid can be turned
into a solid, or even make it disappear. With these hands on activities
and experiments, your child will love science. Children will
even be able to take home an experiment to share.
Write and design your own comic book tales about princesses,
goblins, genies or superheroes. Create your own characters (even
scary looking monsters!) for your comic book scenes. Animate
your story and see it come to life in a special comic book player.
Students will work with a partner and each student will get a copy
of their comic book.
If you love basketball, this program is for you! We will play a variety
of basketball games each week including: Horse, Knock-out,
60 second shoot outs and of course pick- up games of basketball.
Participants will choose what they want to play each week. A great
way to be a part of the March Madness.
Children will be able to create beautiful ceramic pieces from a variety
of greenware at the park District. All brushes, paints and kiln
time included. You will be amazed at what you can create in this
fun ceramic program.

Using Lego™ Educational kits, budding engineers will learn about
simple machines by building models of real-life devices such as a
folding lawn chair, a car, drawbridge or a conveyor belt. They
will learn about the concepts of pulleys, levers, wheels and axles,
and gears and bring their projects to life using battery operated motors.
Through the building of realistic motorized models, students
will develop an understanding of mechanical principles. They
will explore, investigate, and solve problems in a fun group environment.

If your child has a lot of energy, then this program is for him/her.
We will learn the basics of Soccer and play games each week. If it
is too cold outside, we will play inside the gym. Participants will
be able to pass, dribble and kick the ball in this fun six week program.
This is a unique and fun class where children will explore the wonderful
world of dance through movement. They will learn how to
follow direction, stretch and perform basic ballet and cool jazz
dance steps. Children will also learn a routine and be encouraged
to put together some steps of their own. Creativity and imagination
will be incorporated into the learning process. (Parents are welcome
to come 10 to 15 minutes early the last week of class to see
“The Show”) Proper attire for class is leotards and tights for girls,
and sweatpants and tee shirts for boys. Ballet shoes are required.
Jazz shoes are optional.
Hey kids! Have fun learning some of today’s hottest dance steps.
You’ll be introduced to the basics and then some cool new steps.
Also, you will be choreographing your own routine as a group (or
groups) with assistance from the instructor. Dance like your favorite
artist from warm up to cool down. (Parents are welcome to
come 10 to 15 minutes early the last week of class to see “The
Show”!) Please wear comfortable clothing and gym shoes (preferred).
Girls have you always wished you could learn cheers and pom routines
just like the older girls, but there wasn’t a class available for
your age group? Well now is your chance! Have a great time
learning simple cheers, partner stunts and an awesome pom routine.
No experience is necessary. All you need to do is bring your
strong voice and enthusiastic spirit. If you have taken our class in
the past, rest assured that we will have a completely different program
this time around. Each participant will need a set of poms by
the second class. We will have inexpensive poms available for purchase
in class. A parent must be present at the first class to sign a
waiver to learn more about our cheer program.
With the spring season just around the corner, let us show you how
to help your garden grow. In this class you can personalize a
flower pot just for you. You plant the seeds the dirt, then bring it
home and watch it grow. With household supplies, we will create
personalized bird feeders for all our feathered friends to enjoy.

It’s never too early to begin learning another language. Young children
have a unique ability to pick up another language quickly and
easily. Take advantage by involving them in a Spanish class that
includes arts and crafts, games, signing and other fun and exciting
ways to learn the language.
Learn the perfect golf swing in this introductory to golf class. Each
day we will learn the basics to golf and participate in a variety of
drills. Learn the concentration it takes to putt, the strength to swing
and the fun golf has to offer! On our last day we will take a trip to
a miniature golf course to play a game and show off our new
skills!
Let the artist within come out. In this outdoor class children will be
able to express themselves with an activity called sheet paint.
Each participant will have their own canvas to work with. We use a
spray bottle and paint to create our masterpiece and then take it
home and enjoy. The next week we will design a kite, the rest you
will have to come and see!
Get moving with this energetic class for kids. The focus is on simple
moves, stretches, and healthy challenges while having fun.
Bring a friend or meet new people as we get healthy.
Dive into the world of video game animation by creating
characters that dance, sing and interact with one another. Add
sound effects and music clips to create a dynamic video animation
game by using software created just for kids. Afterwards, you will
get your own copy of your game and the software to play with
your friends and family. Creativity rules in this fun version of
video game design!
Children will be taught the basics of t-ball such as catching,
hitting, throwing, and base running. Participants will learn batting
skills by hitting a rag ball off a tee. All children will receive a
t-shirt, but must provide their own mitt. Fee includes: instruction,
t-shirt, and awards. An evening game will be played followed by
an awards presentation and picnic at the end of the season. Each
parent will supply a team snack once during the season. We try our

hand-stuff and put in a sound chip for their new friend, then make a
wish on a rainbow wish star; name their animal and complete a birth

Come decorate our parking lot. Draw beautiful pictures with colorful

around teamwork and good sportsmanship. Participants will play a
variety of games incorporating different sports. Some of the games
they will play will be kickball, 500 yard dash, knock-out, and a variety
of tag games.
Come join Glitzy Girlz for a super “sweet’ time in this new class.
Each couple will be candy-making and crafting all in the same
class. Celebrate upcoming Valentine’s Day and make special treats
for family and friends. Our candy-making shoppe consists of “bugs
take-out”, chocolate covered treats like pretzels and cookies with
trimmings, marshmellow lollipops and a surprise of the day! We
will decorate cute packaging and containers with attaching cards.
We provide cool stamp, embellishments, ribbons and packaging
tools. Our candy shoppe experience ends with a tasty cupcake treat
for all! Bring your “sweet tooth!”
Help York Center as it preserves our natural environment this
spring! Come join us as we tend to our prairie restoration area at
Knolls Park. We’ll pull non-native plants, pick up garbage, and
trim branches. This is a great way for Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts
to earn their environmental patches. After we clean the prairie path
we will enjoy a picnic in the park. A hot dog meal will be provided
for all that helped clean the prairie.
Come join us as we make delicious cookies for your Valentine!
Children will be able to cut out and decorate heart cookies with
sprinkles and frosting. While the scent fills the room, we will make
a craft and more. Please wear appropriate play clothes; we may get
messy.

St. Patrick’s Day! On this lucky day we will make some crafts, participate in a variety of Irish games, dance around like leprechauns
